A gorgeous ceramic preserve jar in ceramic with a blue glaze and silvered band and leaf overlay. It also has an etched leaf design lid in silver plate and an elegant carrying handle. Dating between 1865 and 1879, it is an elegant and stylish piece perfect for the breakfast table. Makers Taylor and Tunnicliffe were based in Hanley, Staffs and part of the great pottery tradition of the area, this piece is marked for the dates above, Despite being one of the lesser known names, this piece exemplifies their exceptional quality.
We all seem to have drifted towards scooping our jams straight out of the jar so this piece could be a “special occasion” piece or could be adapted for small treats or sweeties.
This preserve jar is in very good antique condition. There is some slight wear to the plating of the lid however this provides a highlighted brassy tone to the leaf design and is not unattractive.
