£130.00

Georgian period silver serving spoon with Dublin hallmarks

1 in stock

Description

A fine collector’s piece of silver tableware for those who appreciate what has become known as “provincial silver”. This grand serving spoon – probably once part of a larger cutlery canteen – is constructed in fine quality sterling silver in a basic, yet elegant fiddle pattern. The rear of the handle is marked with Dublin hallmarks for 1776. There are some unidentified maker’s marks and possibly owners marks but information is scarce and they remain untraced,

The front of the spoon is also marked with an armorial crest of a rampant dragon. The spoon is of a goodly weight and well made – a real status piece in its day – and makes a fine addition to a rare silver collection.

Condition

Despite its age, this spoon has survived well, no evidence of bending or soldering and bar a few very minor surface scuffs (expected through use) is in as close to mint condition as possible for 242 years of age.
