Description
Another fabulous item from our collection of antique, Victorian jewellery with this trefoil brooch. It was not uncommon for the Victorians to have objects for every eventuality; sometimes even one object for more than one eventuality and in this case the brooch is also pendant. it is converted by a ring and bail on the top side which is easy enough to slide a chain through.
The piece is made in silver (unmarked due to the low silver content) and a rich amber carnelian with gorgeous striations giving a translucent quality. The stone is fixed in place with delicate little “claws” and a central open ring while to the rear a C-clasp to secure a vertical pin. Because the C-clasp is open, we often advise the addition of a safety chain to avoid loss. This is a superb and very stylish brooch with a definite character which will suit any occasion.
Condition
This brooch is ostensibly in excellent condition for its age. On the outward face it appears pristine while on the reverse a few scuff marks where the stone was cut or the pin has scraped the stone. All silver in lovely condition and instantly wearable.
